Battle prayer notes 6/28/23
Good morning brother
Day two: God speaks to us through Holy Spirit. God speaks to us through our difficulties.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+14%3A26&version=NIV)).
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees” (Psalm 119:67-68 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+119%3A67-68&version=NIV)).
Thoughts: How does the Holy Spirit help us to hear from God? How can we pray in the Spirit and receive spirit and life? In our difficulties and trials how does God speak? Do our sufferings have purpose and meaning? Can I suffer and be at a loss for the sake of the Gospel? Can we suffer well?
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Tim. 1:7
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34 NIV
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” 1 Kings 19:11-12
05:55:03 From Juan A Wyatte Sr. to Everyone:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34 NIV
Principles for walking with God through difficult days:
Bring your pain to God don’t run from him.
When you run from God in seasons of challenge, all you’re left with is your own limited ability to cope with what you’re walking through. On the other hand, God invites us to draw near to him that we might experience his peace, healing, and closeness and this is what Scripture points us towards.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalm 34:18
Fill your life with God’s Word and God’s people.
How we respond to pain and suffering is critical to how we process what’s happening and how healing will take place. If you treat physical sickness with the inappropriate medication, not only will your sickness continue, but it could become worse.
Jesus doesn’t simply say we’ll have trials and sorrow and then leaves it to us to figure out. Instead, he promises peace and reminds us that he has overcome the world.
While the Holy Spirit can speak to us through other trusted believers, sermons, Christian books, and Christian music, the Holy Spirit’s main way of communicating to us is speaking to us through the Bible.
If you are having trouble hearing Him, there are a few things you can do to hear Him better. The first thing you can do to better hear the Holy Spirit in your Bible reading is to pray for God’s help.
Pray and ask God to help you hear the Holy Spirit better. The Lord will answer your prayer and help you to hear the soft words of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Bible, yet we have to listen to Him. We should not grieve him, nor should we ignore His conviction. Listening to the Holy Spirit can be difficult, yet with more practice, it will be easier to discern His voice.
Similar to knowing a person, we can only come to know their voice if we spend time with them; we cannot discern the Holy Spirit’s voice if we don’t spend time with Him in prayer and reading His Word.
It is vitally important to listen to the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit as He can help us live the life God wants us to live. If we live in conformity with the sinful nature rather than the instruction of the Holy Spirit, we will be led astray.
Paul tells us, “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” (Galatians 5:17).
The Spirit inside of us is constantly at odds with the sinful flesh. As believers, we have to choose whether we are going to follow the sinful flesh or the Holy Spirit.
The sinful flesh is hard to fight against, yet God can help us. Each member of the Trinity can help us in our battle against the flesh. The Holy Spirit helps convict us against the sinful flesh as we as He urges us to follow His guidance.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Don’t be filled with worry, overflow with worship.
Something powerful happens when we actively choose to worship through our suffering. We aren’t denying reality, we are simply redirecting our posture from one of worry to one of worship.
Worship changes our perspective. Worship speaks about where our confidence and hope resides. Worship redirects our thinking. Worship places the results in God’s hands.
Whether your pain is the result of relationship challenges, financial struggle, health diagnosis or anxiety about the future, when you begin to worship the Lord through your struggle, spiritual chains begin to break so that you aren’t ruled by your circumstance but you set your sights on something higher. This why Paul and Silas could praise when chained in prison. They recognized God was using their imprisonment for the spread of the gospel which ultimately resulted in the first New Testament church on the continent of Europe.
Thank you for another great day of Zoom Battle Prayer.
