Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Oh Lord help me be wise in this: By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous. His faith still speaks though he has died many years ago. Oh God I am so tempted to offer you fruit from the soil of my life as an offering to you. Offering you things that are acceptable in my own eyes but not acceptable to you. Jesus you deserve the fat portions from the firstborn of my flock. You deserve my heart and attention, my mind and strength, my will and emotions. I can only do this by offering my body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to the Lord. Then and only then will God send His Holy Fire from Heaven and consume my sacrifice in approval. All these other things I am bringing to you apart from the acceptable sacrifice of faith that you requested are worth nothing to you. Cain's offering was unacceptable because there was no shedding of blood. It was the work of his own hands, from the soil of our lives that we all try to vindicate ourselves before God. But no, there needs to be blood representing the cost of salvation. Interesting that Cain did not want to offer the shedding of blood of the firstborn flock. He instead chose to shed human blood, the blood of his brother Abel. It should be a warning to us that our salvation is by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the lamb of God. Those without God put the blood on themselves and say everything the Lord has said we will do. Doing it your way and not Gods way in Christ leaves blood on your hands like Cain. You have killled the faith of Abel and his blood cries out mercy. There is no covering left if we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledgeof the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and raging fire that will consume all adversaries. Cain instead of offering the lamb of sacrifice offered himself by default of sin. Let us not be entangled by the corruption of this world again. Lets not be caught like a ram in a thicket for judgment, but by faith in Christ offer an acceptable sacrifice, which is of our whole life. Thank you Jesus for the Cross and Ressurection.
