Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Do not trust the words of this saying, "This is the LORD's temple, the LORD's temple, the LORD's temple!" The Lord spoke his word to Jeremiah regarding the state of the people of Israel. The people at the time were living a double life. They entered the gates of the temple uttering this trustworthy saying thinking that God would be honored by this. There confidence was in the physical temple rather than the Spirit of God working in their lives. The Lord said if they changed the way they lived and acted, he would let them live in this place. As we find out further in the future Israel lost the temple as well as their country because of their many destructive sins. They stole, murdered, committed adultery, lied when taking oaths, burned incense as an offering to Baal, and ran after other gods that they did not know. Then they would stand in the presence in the house that is called by His Name. Thinking that were safe to do all these disgusting things and not be held accountable. They had no shame or repentance yet worshipped before the Lord wanting his blessings. The house that was called by His Name has become a gathering place for thieves. I have seen what you are doing," declared the Lord. I can't help but compare this rebellion to the lives we live for Christ now. We declare boldly that our bodies are the temple of the living God, yet we only declare this by word and not by deed. Our temple should be a dwelling for the Holy Spirit to come change us and renew us. Yet so many of our earthen vessels are dedicated to sin and death instead of the Presence of Christ. Let us not utter sayings about being a temple if we are not going to live for Jesus. Its not about going to church or being a super christian. But its about realizing that we actually house the presence of God in us, and that our lives should reflect this wondrous gift. The Lord is a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. A double life will not produce the fruit we need for righteous living. We are but a stench of incense rising to God from our earthly temples. Lets repent and pursue right relationship with God and man, so our temple can burn pure holy fire. Meditate 1 Cor. 6:19
