Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Lord, I am so unclean not worthy of your presence. I do not deserve to have your Spirit in me yet you still chose to. In the old earthly temple their were so many different things that made people unclean in your presence. Even if you were ceremonially clean, I am sure people felt so guilty in their hearts. The blood of bulls and goats reminded them of their sinful nature, of their sinful heart that needed cleansing. With our own stubborn hearts we do whatever we want leaving us in an unclean state. God is holy and we are not, we have nothing to bring to God but dirty rags. Imagine that, your best thing that you can offer apart from Christ is the term “filthy rags” which is quite strong. The word filthy is a translation of the Hebrew word iddah, which literally means the bodily fluids from a woman’s menstrual cycle. The word rags is a translation of begged, meaning rag or garment. Our self righteousness is considered by God as repugnant as a soiled feminine hygiene product. Only the righteousness produced from Christ working in our lives can bring honor to our great God. We are truly clean when Christ is in us and working through us. Praise God for the power of the Gospel! We have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ, our hearts have been made free from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. We can come near to God with a sincere heart, full of confidence because of our faith in Christ. Evil people will keep on being evil, and everyone who is dirty-minded will still be dirty-minded. But good people will keep on doing right, and God's people will always be holy. Meditate Is. 64:6
