Proverbs of a 37 yr old man
Always hearing but never understanding. There are people that have lost their hearing through the years. When you speak to them, you know you have to get up close and speak louder to get your message across. They interpret the first couple things you said wrong, the opposite of what you are trying to say. But you have mercy on them knowing they can't hear very well. You are patient with them, letting them comprehend what you are saying. The LORD is like that many times with us. He knows we are flesh, and has mercy on us because of our frailties. The Holy Spirit is constantly interceding for us making sense out of our prayers and struggles. The problem we run into is not God's patience, but our ever dulling hearts. Always seeking instruction, yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Jesus is constantly speaking to our hearts but we are becoming hard of hearing. The LORD is patient with us, waiting for us to respond to him. But we are content in only barely hearing and not growing in the knowledge of the truth. Not actually listening but just going through the motions. God in Christ is gently reproving those who oppose him, offering repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. Jesus is willing to help those of us who are hard of hearing. But those who are ever hearing and never perceiving, have made themselves deaf through indecision. Not able to know and distinguish the voice of truth Himself in your life. How sad it is to be deaf to the point where you have no vision from the LORD. He wants to give you that, are you listening?
