Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Your spiritual appetite. Something changed in the desires of humanity after that bite of the forbidden fruit. Adam and Eve had such a pure appetite, many scholars think they had a holy light that covered them. That is why when they disobeyed God they noticed they were naked. Maybe the light of Gods presence made their hearts desires under control and also gave them fulfillment in right standing with God. Since sin entered through our first parent's mouths and infiltrated all their basic desires. Feelings have become more sensitive, emotions have become more persuasive than what God has said. Apart from the light of God in our lives we are susceptible to any fowl desire. Generation after generation each testing the boundaries of sin and inventing new ways to dishonor God. The intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Wicked people are always planning something evil, and can hardly wait to do it. Never hesitating to murder innocent people leaving ruin and destruction wherever they go. The appetite of sinful humanity is never satisfied. Only in Jesus, who became human to intercede for us, can starving sinners be content. In His presence is fullness of joy. In His right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! He is God and yes He is perfect. We are not but because He is we can draw strength from His Spirit. God made us spirit and body, and while this body is condemned to die our spirit, our soul is made alive in Christ. Jesus very life is the hope of the Gospel. If He did not rise from the dead our faith is dead. In Christ we can have victory over the evil desires that work within us. They are killing us and making us do bad decisions. The gift of Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus wets our appetite for righteousness, pricks our hearts for holiness. I am talking about real holiness that does not come from just being a good person. A holiness that comes from relationship with Christ. His desires become your desires. What break his heart breaks yours. Breaking the cycle of sin and death and giving spirit and life to a believer. Your spiritual appetite needs to be under the control of Holy Spirit. You will fail many times to live to Christs standard. but in the process you are renewing your mind and heart. A beautiful word called sanctification, best describes our the transformation of spiritual hunger. The craving of sin become less and less as God in Christ is changing you from your inside out. Restoring your stomach for the word so that you start to eat from the tree of life again, like our first parents did spiritually speaking.. And hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when desire comes it is a tree of life. We are in the process of changing our taste for sin to righteousness. Jesus is our hope and when He comes again He is ultimate desire fulfilled.
