Oh To Be Wise Meditations

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness. Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not acquit the guilty. Telling lies about friends is like attacking them with clubs and swords and sharp arrows. Do not testify against your neighbor without cause-- would you use your lips to mislead? These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another, render true and sound judgments in your gates, do not plot evil in your hearts against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely, for I hate all these things,” declares the LORD. A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape. If you tell lies in court, you are done for; only a reliable witness can do the job. A false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Those who convict the innocent by their false testimony will disappear. A similar fate awaits those who use trickery to pervert justice and who tell lies to destroy the innocent. So stop telling lies. Do not lie, withhold, or manipulate the truth against any person. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body, the body of Christ.
