Oh To Be Wise Meditations
When the poor and needy are dying of thirst and cannot find water, I, the LORD God of Israel, will come to their rescue. I won't forget them. I will make rivers flow on mountain peaks. I will send streams to fill the valleys. Dry and barren land will flow with springs and become a lake. I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. Jesus thirsted so that I would thirst after righteousness. My sinful flesh cries out for sensuality and lust. It craves the desires of this world and the pride of this life. Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Notice He thirsted for water and got sour wine. Right after that he bowed his head and gave up his spirit for us. We thirst for sin and death the way just thirsted for righteousness. In Him giving up his spirit for us, He condemned sin in the flesh and raise up his spirit in us. The Holy Spirit in us causes us to thirst for righteousness as we die to ourselves daily. We start to thirst for relationship with Christ more and more. And He gives us the thirst and quenching that our flesh cannot provide. It is the poor in spirit that cannot find any remedy for the thirst of the flesh. Lusting uncontrollably even when you have nothing to give. A slave to sin becoming more poor in every area of my life. I thirst, I thirst for sensual desires, Help me LORD kill the sinful flesh within me by the power of your death on the Cross. Through your resurrected life I can live from my renewed spirit and not the dying flesh. I want to thirst for Living Water from within. I am tired of the lustful flesh making a drunk out me, making a fool out of me. I want to be rich and satisfied, at peace with God and man. That is what being filled with Holy Spirit is. Filled with Christ's Righteousness.
