Oh To Be Wise Meditations

A rising threat. “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.” Those are Jesus words to Peter before Jesus was betrayed. We have a rising threat whispering in our ears constantly. Trying to stir our desires towards sin and selfishness, towards evil and wickedness. We must stay aware of the enemy within the gates of our heart. He knows how to tempt and lure us away from Christ. Hear my heart Jesus: Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles. My enemies shout at me, making loud and wicked threats. They bring trouble on me and angrily hunt me down. My heart pounds in my chest. The terror of death assaults me. Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can’t stop shaking. Oh, that I had wings like a dove; then I would fly away and rest! I would fly far away to the quiet of the wilderness. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. With each rising threat I will magnify the LORD and exalt his name. For when I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
