Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Great story in the Bible: A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. Then Jesus sent him on his way with a stern warning: “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.” But the man went and spread the word, proclaiming to everyone what had happened. As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but people from everywhere kept coming to him. Oh LORD Jesus, what an amazing real life story. You can heal the sick, cleanse the leper, cast out demons, and even raise the dead! You call us to do even greater things than you did, bearing fruit for your Kingdom. Your life giving Spirit was multiplied on your believers at Pentecost. You told the Leper to keep quiet so that you could fulfill your mission here on earth to save the souls of man. But now call all of us to live for you the way you died for us. Being living sacrifice for the world to see the love of God in Christ. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Amen. Let us live a life of great faith sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Calling all people to repentance and to the ministry of reconciliation. Tell all the nations, “The LORD reigns!” The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly.
