Oh To Wise Meditations
Sent away empty. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh. What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now, for a time of awful hunger awaits you. What sorrow awaits you who laugh now, for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow. You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. You will come before the LORD and leave empty without the gifts of his grace and mercy. Your hands, your heart were too full of the worlds burdens and care. Christs burden is easy and his burden is light. Yet so many leave empty after prayer because they left with what they came in with. They left empty of the presence and vindication of God and more of the worry and judgment of a dark and weary world. But I have been the LORD your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me. I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of burning heat. But when you had eaten and were satisfied, you became proud and forgot me. Oh LORD, I want to leave full of your presence and empty of self from every time of prayer. So help me God.
