Oh To Be Wise Meditations

We have a higher law. A law of love that supersedes the laws of man. We are to honor God before we honor man. That is why the three Hebrews went against the orders of King Nebuchadnezzar to worship him. This was not rebellion this was about honor to the one true God in heaven and in the earth. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king. In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets. Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. And if you judge the law, you are not a practitioner of the law, but a judge of it. God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? We have a higher law to live by. Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.
