Oh To Be Wise Meditations

LORD, help us to be shrewd so as to avoid the snares the enemy has set up in our lives. To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd. You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud. You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor. Wise people have enough sense to find their way, but stupid fools get lost. Precious treasures and oil are in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man consumes them. The LORD detests the way of the wicked, but He loves those who pursue righteousness. May God give them a bellyful of trouble. May God rain down his anger upon them. They enjoyed the sweet taste of wickedness, letting it melt under their tongue. They savored it, holding it long in their mouths. But suddenly the food in their bellies turns sour, a poisonous venom in their stomach. They will vomit the wealth they swallowed. God won’t let them keep it down. hey will suck the poison of cobras. The viper will kill them. They will never again enjoy streams of olive oil or rivers of milk and honey. They will give back everything they worked for. Their wealth will bring them no joy. For they oppressed the poor and left them destitute. They foreclosed on their homes. They were always greedy and never satisfied. Nothing remains of all the things they dreamed about. Nothing is left after they finish gorging themselves. Therefore, their prosperity will not endure. In the midst of plenty, they will run into trouble and be overcome by misery. The result of humility is fear of the LORD, along with wealth, honor, and life.
