Proverbs of a 37 yr old man
Perfecting holiness. Now lets not judge the religious leaders in Israel to harshly because we do this all the time as well. For every command of God they added there own laws and conditions to make sure God's original law was kept holy. For example, the Jewish ceremony of circumcision has value only if you obey God’s law. But if you don’t obey God’s law, you are no better off than an uncircumcised Gentile. And if the Gentiles obey God’s law, won’t God declare them to be his own people? A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. its the circumcision of the heart that is needed to please God. Jesus has made provision for this but for some reason its in the heart of man to try to perfect holiness. Has God not said has turned into did God really say? Sin seizes its opportunity through the commandment to deceive you, to destroy you. But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy and right and good. We have got to stop trying to perfect what God has called holy and humbly learn to be obedient to The Living Word which is Christ. How do we this? By not nullifying the law of his word through faith. If we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law. The principle of faith does not negate the need for obedience; rather, it establishes it. Jesus canceled the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. Condemning sin in the flesh so that the righteous demands of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. No amount of self help and works will accomplish the righteous standard of the law in us. Jesus is putting his law in our hearts through a faith relationship with Him. He perfects holiness in us as we grow in the knowledge of him and his will for our lives. We have got to stop using law and deed as proof of our holiness. It tarnishes the word of God also when we add our own laws and preconceived ideas to accommodate peoples opinions. Do not use the carnal to bring about the spiritual. Don't accomplish by works that which was supposed to be accomplished by faith. Study Rom. 10:4
