Proverbs of a 38 yr old man
Let me give you a famous quote by Bruce Lee: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." I can't help but think about the perseverant Christian in prayer when I read that. Day by day they are before the throne of God being strengthen by his empowering presence. The habit of prayer has become apart of who they are and the prayers of a righteous person availeth much. So many people put on a show like the Pharisees did before men. Thinking that their outward deeds shows how holy they are. No, better to be full of Spirit and life than to have only the outward show of holiness. If you remember in scripture there were some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered. You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? May we not be impressed by signs and wonders, that is not the faith you have been called to. Be impressed by the changed life where the Holy Spirit is so oozing out of one’s character and faith. Show me someone filled with the Holy Spirit; well that is someone bearing its fruit of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
No wonder the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective. They have bore the peaceable fruit of righteousness that comes through close relationship with Christ. Its like they have practiced one kick of prayer 10,000 times. The enemy trembles when a child of faith becomes a true disciple of Christ.
