Proverbs of a 40 yr old man
Boa Constrictor. Evil desire comes to us like a small snake that we think we can manage and manipulate. Like the Boa Constrictor snake, sin is kept and bred in captivity. The snake starts to get large and heavy bodied though it is non venomous. Before too long the snake gets to big for you to handle. The sin that you kept secretly enjoying now has mastered you and have become a slave to its grip. The boa first strikes at the prey, grabbing it with its teeth; it then proceeds to constrict the prey until death before consuming it whole. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. He will squeeze and quench the spirit and life out of you so that you become a complete slave to sin and death. Sin starts to constrict us and move us away from God choking the seed of His Word in us. There is only one that has power over sin and the devil. He overcame this world and the devil. There at Gethsemane He poured out sweats of blood as He readied himself for the cup of wrath. Jesus on the Cross stomped the head of snake leaving his tail in wake. He took it away, nailing it to the cross! In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. If sin in your life has become a huge boa constrictor for you to handle. If you are being squeezed unto sin and death by the sins that so easily entangle us. Call on the powerful name of Jesus and he will stomp the ground so hard that the serpents tremble and release running away seven different ways! Where is its victory? Where is its sting?" Sin is what gives death its sting, and the Law is the power behind sin. But thank God for letting our Lord Jesus Christ give us the victory! Be strong, be immovable, be restored by the power of the Spirit of Christ again. The head of the snake has been cut off and Jesus holds it in victory! We are people of flesh and blood. This is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power over death. But he also died to rescue all of us who live each day in fear of dying. Hear the LORD say: Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven. Amen. Without Jesus, sin in the end bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
