Proverbs of a 40 yr old man
You become a snake. You become like the serpent of old that has deceived humanity. You gave into sin and temptation and settled into your own guilt with no shame. The venomous wicked desires that flow through you have opened your eyes to good and evil, and you would rather do evil instead. For fools speak foolishness and make evil plans. They practice ungodliness and spread false teachings about the LORD. They deprive the hungry of food and give no water to the thirsty. The smooth tricks of scoundrels are evil. They plot crooked schemes. They lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor is just. Each one is tempted when by there own evil desires they are lured away and enticed. The enemy of our souls entangles us in sin and leaves us to our own demise while blaming us. What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Be careful to not blame the devil for everything and be responsible for your actions. We have the Grace of God in Christ as our defender and redeemer. We don't have to become the snake. Some of us help the devils cause by the way we live and spread the venom of our wicked thinking with others. What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are! Amen. Many have become agents for the serpent of old in governments and societies. Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge people with equity? No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth. Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies. Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears, that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be. Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; LORD, tear out the fangs of those lions!
