Proverbs of a 41 yr old man

Updated: Apr 23

Changing Seasons, Changing Treatments series. This is the time of year in the Spring season where we must deal with new growth of weeds. I want to talk about Nutgrass today, and as the LORD leads go over some different weeds that may spring up not just in our lawns but in hearts and lives. Seasons of life change for us, and we must in Christ daily be seeking his wisdom for our lives here on Earth. The enemy of our souls wants to sift us like wheat; how much more does he want weeds growing in the garden of our hearts. So, Nutgrass.

Nutgrass has nut-shaped tubers on its roots, hence its name, and is usually easy to identify as it’ll be a few shades lighter than the green of your lawn and will usually grow taller. Unlike most grasses, nutgrass has a triangular stem, with three blades that shoot up from it. Nutgrass, otherwise known as nutsedge, is actually one of the hardest weeds to get rid of in your lawn! Sometimes, when it feels like you’re accomplishing something, you’re actually not. When watering, mowing and trimming your lawn, you may be feeding the nutgrass plants, causing them to grow faster and fight harder for survival. So, how do we stop this? Let’s get into this spiritually. This weed reminds me of Jesus's words about evil spirits in Matt. 12 starting in verse 43. “When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. 44Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. 45Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.” Amen. When it comes to this weed’s ability to infiltrate in your lawn, nutgrass is one of the worst. It’s highly invasive, hard to remove and if left untreated, it will choke out your healthy grass and take over your lawn. This nutgrass weed is like the evil spirits, if you don't keep watch over the lawn of your heart and allow these weeds to multiple it take over and actually blend in with your lawn of your heart. You will think nothing is wrong, but you allowed nutgrass to grow and only removed a couple lazy weeds. It grows back even more and hides in your grass. This how it is with the heart that is lazy and given to all kinds of desires. You invite evil spirits into your life even after you been set free. You repented and found grace in your time of need. But if you don't guard your heart from where the issues of life flow from, then you are subject too much evil spirits and temptation that want to inhabit you as their host to squat and destroy. Many times, the physical things we are dealing with are evil spirits torturing us and we need to be set free from all the sins that are destroying our hearts. Jesus died so that we could have new hearts and minds submitted to the Lawn Master Himself. We get a clean slate and must allow the Holy Spirit to remove sin and death from our hearts and give us spirit and life. Let Luke 3:17 elaborate this more: John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.” Amen. I hope your seeing this analogy with sin and evil spirits. Let's not allow evil desires and spirits to control our thoughts and patterns. We are called to renew our minds daily keep our spiritual house as pure and holy temple for the LORD Jesus. If Jesus is in us, the enemy has to flee. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So, they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
