A fullness part 2. There is a completeness and wholeness that the Holy Spirit provides. The Spirit of Christ in us is the power we need to overcome this world. Without this power we can do nothing, even our good works are filthy rags. When you think about fullness what goes through your mind? I think the best way to describe this is being sober minded. That's a term used in the Scriptures of being aware and not falling asleep on the cares and pleasures of this world. Let's make a comparison in the flesh to open this up. When a person drinks alcohol and becomes drunk. What are the side effects of that? Check this out: alcohol impairs cognitive functions, motor skills, and judgment. It can affect balance, coordination, impulse control, memory, and decision-making, increasing the risk of injuries. Additionally, alcohol can affect mood, behavior, and overall brain function, leading to risky behaviors and negative consequences. Is that not what happens when we indulge in fleshly and sinful desires? We are empty of our facilitates and are sweep away by our deadly human nature. To be in sin constantly is to be intoxicated so much to self. We have no strength or moral ground that we start to run from truth and accountability. We lose our inhibitions and can't tell the difference between right and wrong. Our left and right hands become criss crossed. Oh, but to be filled with Holy Spirit to the brim is to be sober minded and self control. The Spirit of Christ produces a peaceable fruit of righteousness in us so that we can live from a real and lasting fullness. We tend as Christians to focus on the gifts of Holy Spirit as a sign but how much more is the fruit of Holy Spirit! I think of the demonic in the Gaderenes. When Jesus healed him the Scripture says he was calm and at peace! Luke 8:34 When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran off and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they became frightened. Oh that when Holy Spirit dwells in us we would be of a sound mind with a spirit of power and love! Let me close with this: Let us be so filled with Holy Spirit daily that we are sober in mind and body. Meditate on these Scriptures:
1 Peter 4:7 - But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 1:13
So be sober, prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.
