Proverbs of a 42 yr. old man

Updated: Sep 20

Do not gloat over your enemy. This is one of the hardest things as Christians we must struggle with. I noticed in the word gloat if you take out the L you have goat. Isn't that the truth that in our flesh we want to g.o.a.t. over our enemies. If feels so good in the flesh to trample our neighbor, our enemy. But Jesus calls us to not repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you, his blessing. Even in our spiritual authority we are not to gloat over our power over demons. To be thankful that our names are written in the Book of Life. God is always watching our hearts. Jesus taught us to love and forgive both enemies and friends and pray for our persecutors. Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. He even left us an example as He hung on the cross, He practiced what He preached, forgiving His torturers and executioners. One of the worst decisions you can make in your heart is to gloat over your enemy's demise. You invite that same of judgment to fall on you. God is not a respecter of persons. Those who are righteous and turn to a wicked life receive the same judgment of the wicked. If you make fun of poor people, you insult the God who made them. You will be punished if you take pleasure in someone's misfortune. There is one main and holy reason why do we not rejoice when our enemy falls? Because Gods ultimate goal is to see an enemy of the cross become a brother or sister in Christ. The Lord Jesus taught us to accomplish this by treating our enemies with kindness, generosity, and humility. We conquer evil by doing good. Just as God’s kindness is intended to turn us away from our sin, our kindness might be just the thing to turn an enemy away from a life of sin toward repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices in the truth. Jesus is the way the truth and life. A narrow way that few find, LORD Jesus, help us to be led by Holy Spirit so we can lead even our enemies to the Cross. Let me close with the Apostle Paul's words of warning in Phil. 3:18-20: Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.
