Communing with God. We are to spend time communing with God. John 17:3 says now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. Amen. Communing with God means to have close, personal fellowship with God. Sharing your heart with Him, listening to Him through His Word and Spirit, enjoying His presence, and walking with Him throughout your life. Because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” You were created to commune with God. This is what communing with God looks like: Talking with God — bringing Him your worship, gratitude, fears, needs, questions, and desires. “Pour out your heart before Him.” (Psalm 62:8) Listening to God — especially through Scripture, allowing the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply God's truth. (John 16:13; 2 Timothy 3:16–17) Being still before Him — sometimes you don't need many words. You simply become aware of God and rest in His presence. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) Abiding in Christ — Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you.” (John 15:4). Communion means remaining connected to Jesus throughout the day. Responding in obedience — fellowship with God isn't only emotional; what He shows you begins shaping how you live. (John 14:21) Sharing life with God — you can commune with Him while driving, walking, working, serving someone, studying Scripture, or sitting quietly. Think about the difference between knowing about someone and living in relationship with them. You can study everything about God and still miss communion with God. Bible study teaches you about God. Prayer speaks to God.

Listening receives from God. Worship adores God. Obedience walks with God. Communion brings all of these together into fellowship with God. Paul describes this beautifully: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14. So communing with God is essentially saying: “Father, I don't only want something from You. I want to know You, enjoy Your presence, hear Your Word, share my heart with You, and walk with You.” That is one of the beautiful purposes of salvation: God doesn't merely forgive us; He brings us into fellowship with Himself. 1 John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
