Oh To Be Wise Meditations

A thousand years. Imagine if you could live up to a thousand years? The things you could do with that amount of time. The things you could accomplish with all those years available to you. You could plan ahead and take trips everywhere. Travel the world and learn about every culture, place and time. Try all of the best foods from different countries and maybe even learn a new language. Once you start working on that maybe you can start focusing on social issues. Try to help figure out global problems like global hunger, global warming, and water shortage. Also the huge problem of human trafficking needs addressing as well. In a thousand years you could maybe address these issues and find solutions. Maybe by year 500 you have amassed alot of wealth by winning the lotto. Or maybe started a fortune 500 business and use your money to help the poor and abandoned by society. Now your getting things rolling, things are getting better and maybe there is a cure for cancer by age 700. Amazingly, you are living a long and productive life but those you have loved have passed away many years ago. You were so focused on solving the worlds problems you forgot maybe to remember to take care of your family. As soon as you start to attend to the needs of your family you are approaching now 1000 years. You looked again and saw people being mistreated everywhere on earth. They were crying, but no one was there to offer comfort, and those who mistreated them were powerful. You say to yourself, “The dead are better off than the living. But those who have never been born are better off than anyone else, because they have never seen the terrible things that happen on this earth. Then I realized that we work and do wonderful things just because we are jealous of others. This makes no more sense than chasing the wind. Once again I saw that nothing on earth makes sense. For example, some people don't have friends or family. But they are never satisfied with what they own, and they never stop working to get more. They should ask themselves, “Why am I always working to have more? Who will get what I leave behind?” What a senseless and miserable life. I thought if I could live many years I could fix the world around me, maybe even my family. Another thousand years of my life would bring not stop more evil and suffering. You stop one disease and another begins. You stop one crisis and another evil person raises up. You just wanted to help save the world and if you had enough time maybe you could do it. What this world needs a Saviour and the only hope for humanity is Jesus Christ. This world has been judged by the blood of Jesus and by the mercy of God will soon pass away. Jesus is making all things new, new heaven and new earth, where time is not measured. Imagine this, when we have been in heaven with Christ a thousand years, life will still be contagious and free. Endless pleasure that comes from the hand of God to enjoy forevermore. A thousand years will feel like a day in heaven because we are having such a good time. Oh for a thousand years to praise the Lord and never ever have to worry of sin and death. In his sight a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours. Meditate 2 Peter 3:7-9
