Morning brother,


Day three topic: Greed

Definition:  a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed (material goods)

Counterpart: Generosity, kindness

Greed is an excessive pursuit of material goods.

The Bible says the following in Hebrews 13:5, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Other biblical texts which mention greed include: Exodus 20:17, Proverbs 11:24, Proverbs 28:25, Ecclesiastes 5:10, Philippians 4:6 and 1 Timothy 6:9-10.

Charity cures greed by putting the desire to help others above storing up treasure for one’s self.


Put to do death anything in your earthly nature.


Idolatry is anything we put before God.


Gluttony and greed go together. Too much excess.


The love of money is the root of all evil.


There are experts of greed have no regard for restraint.


Greed and pride go together. People use their humility as a way of pride and selflessness. People greed for attention and power.


The flesh wants to suppress the truth.


Gratify the spirit rather than the flesh.


The LORD Jesus wants to cleanse us of our sins and give us new desires to live from.


We need God. Let’s be God sufficient and not self sufficiency.


Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭24‬ ‭


One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭


He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy‬ ‭32‬:‭4‬ ‭


I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing. Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭25‬-‭26‬ ‭


The more you want the worse it gets.


Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ ‭


But godliness with contentment is great gain. ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭


The devil works through wounds. I was poor when I was you and don’t want to be when I am old. He wants a chip on your shoulders.


But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭30‬:‭17‬ ‭


Need is finite and can be met…Greed is infinite and can never be satisfied.


Let us operate like kings and priests of God. Children of our Father.


I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬-‭13‬ ‭


If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment. ‭‭Job‬ ‭36‬:‭11‬


[Jas 5:5 NLT] 5 You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

[2Pe 2:14 NLT] 14 They commit adultery with their eyes, and their desire for sin is never satisfied. They lure unstable people into sin, and they are well trained in greed. They live under God's curse.

Entropy definition:

lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.

Greed and hoarding is like entropy. As something comes together it becomes chaos and disorder. The love of money brings trouble and chaos in your life.


Alchemy, alchemist definition:

person who uses or seems to use alchemy (= attempts to to change ordinary metals into gold): For thousands of years, alchemists tried to figure out how to turn lead into gold.

We are chasing things that will never be pure gold. Only the pure gold of faith in Christ will do.

Let’s stop trying to use power and gain as magic for all our problems. Start growing in the discipline of relationship in Jesus. He will make us content in all things. Give us the necessary provision to the point where we overflow in his time.
