Day one topic: Lead by service and sacrifice:

The world says being  “a leader” means getting the gold star. Leadership is a form of recognition, a kind of accomplishment, the path to privilege.  Leadership is a form of success.  When you attain the position of leader you can do whatever you dream, and can achieve whatever you set your mind to — at home, at work, in the community, in the church. Why would you settle for anything less? Leadership means privilege. You strive to lead so that all things can be done your way.

But the true path of leadership — leadership as service and sacrifice, not privilege — is Jesus himself.  Jesus warned sharply against both the pagan and religious leaders of his day who sought to use their people for their own benefit, rather than to serve and sacrifice.  Jesus went on to say that :

Mat 20:26-28 NLT]  “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."


Jesus modeled for us leadership with his disciples. He served them even as Rabbi.


Is the agape love of God in us that gives us the strength to sacrifice and serve.


Serving God becomes a joy and passion as you pursue Christ!


Love is a spiritual gift. Desire it and live it out as service.


1 Cor. 13:11 Love is the greatest gift.


It’s not about how many people are under you. It’s if you are under authority in Christ and personal sacrifice.


[1Co 13:1-3, 8, 13 NLT] 1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing. ... 8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! ... 13 Three things will last forever--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.


For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,”

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬


Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭100‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭

[Luk 22:20, 24-27 NLT] 20 After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people--an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. ... 24 Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. 25 Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.' 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. 27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.


Think about this as a leader: Jesus washed Judas feet.


My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭


[Jhn 13:34-35 NLT] 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."


Christ love is so radical I want more in my life.


[Gal 5:22-24 NLT] 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.


We have all seen poor service how it looks like. We want to do more than just worldly service. To go above and beyond and show the love of God.


In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae?" "Fifty cents," replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.

"How much is a dish of plain ice cream?" he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient. "Thirty-five cents," she said brusquely.


The little boy again counted the coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream," he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed.

When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies - her tip.


The early church in Rome Constant practiced personal sacrifice to meet the needs of others.


In the times of famine know that the LORD will provide. Lead with generosity.


As brothers we must bring each other up

And bring each other down.


During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.

Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello'."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.
