Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you. Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.' And let all the people say, 'Amen!' For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of a son is his father. A Happy Ending looks like this: After Job had prayed for his three friends, the LORD made Job twice as rich as he had been before. Then Job gave a feast for his brothers and sisters and for his old friends. They expressed their sorrow for the suffering the LORD had brought on him, and they each gave Job some silver and a gold ring. The LORD now blessed Job more than ever; he gave him 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 pair of oxen, and 1,000 donkeys. In addition to seven sons, Job had three daughters, whose names were Jemimah, Keziah, and Keren Happuch. They were the most beautiful women in that part of the world, and Job gave them shares of his property, along with their brothers. Job lived for another 140 years—long enough to see his great-grandchildren have children of their own— and when he finally died, he was very old. Yes, an old man who had lived a long, full life. I know all families will not look like this, but Job is a great example of honoring our parents. His legacy of faithfulness to his family reflects Gods way of honoring. Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly. This would not happen if respect and honor were not shown down through a family tree. If you obey God, you will have something to leave your grandchildren. If you don't obey God, those who live right will get what you leave. Let us walk in all the ways that the LORD our God has commanded us, so that we may live and prosper and prolong our days in the land that God has provided. If you do it right, your children will honor you and bless you. Passing down respect and honor, because you honored your father and your mother.
