Oh To Be Wise Meditations
A show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy. But godliness with contentment is great gain. If anyone teaches another doctrine and disagrees with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching,
he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and semantics, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions, and constant frictions among men corrupted in mind and destitute of the truth, holding godliness to be a means of gain. For our profit is great, which is the worship of God while having the necessities, for we have enough. And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won't take anything with us when we leave. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. Your faith is precious and no amount of money should cause you to fall away. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. Theses are the many blessings that come to the godly. Do not let religion make a fool out of your before your neighbor, and especially God.
