Oh To Be Wise Meditations

I would rather be stirred and not shaken. To be moved with compassion and fervor than to be humbled by folly and indecision. A day is coming that not only the earth will be shaken, but also heaven. What is in heaven will come to earth according to the will and plan of God. “For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. His righteous ones will live by faith. The LORD will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away. We are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. So stir up the gifts, let Christ's love be our guide. Things are being shaken, stand firm in Christ so that you will never be shaken. Those who trust in the LORD Jesus are like Mt. Zion, and will never be moved. When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
