Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Growth spurt. Its in your genes. Your genetic composition, or genes that you inherit from your parents, causing growth spurts. Your genes will determine how tall you will grow and how quickly you will reach your maximum height. Is is this not the same with our spiritual genes given to us in Christ. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Just like we grow into maturity the genes of our parents so we will grow into the genes of our faith. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. We are to grow and change and have our hearts transformed by Jesus. But it has to be supernatural growth the way growth spurts work for us as children. Little by little things start changing in our lives and it will happen naturally as we pursue the things of God. Listen to some of the signs of growths spurts in children and tell me you don't see that in the spiritual world.
Decrease or increase in appetite.
Fussiness or emotional outbursts.
Baby teeth appearing and adult (permanent) teeth replacing baby teeth.
Sexual development (menstruation, voice change, pubic hair growth).
Is that not the battle of spiritual growths spurts within us? Appetite of the word, bridle over you mouth and emotions, and even our bodies desires are put to death as Christ reigns over our mortal bodies. Amen.
