Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief. Yes, laughter is silly. What good does it do to seek pleasure? Driven on by our desire for wisdom, we decide to cheer ourselves up with wine and have a good time. We thought that this might be the best way people can spend their short lives on earth. But we quickly realized sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom. For godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. There is a inner joy and mercy that comes in the morning. Though sadness and hardship may last through the night. Joy comes in the morning. Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.
