Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Jesus said, if you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and remain in His love. There is a gem hidden in that verse of scripture. I must admit I have read over it many times and made it about law and obedience. But something jumped out at me while in meditation. When we are filled up with love for Jesus, the love for the world and its desires are pushed out of our hearts and minds. Less are the constant thoughts of pleasing yourself, and more are the thoughts of pleasing God. Less are the desires of the flesh and more are the desires that come from the heart of God. In other words, if we remain in the Fathers love poured out through Christ, we will keep the lust and the world out of our lives. We are sinners in need of grace daily, and God has made that available through the Cross. Love means we do what God tells us. And from the beginning, he told you to love him. If we love him than we will pursue him daily so we can have the strength to obey. We can do nothing without the love of God in us. No true righteousness can be produced in us apart from Jesus. There are good people that do good things, but only God is truly perfect and good. You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him. Jesus became man for this purpose because He saw we were a sheep with no shepherd. As human He could relate to our flesh and draw us to the Holy Spirit. And as God he could save us from sin and death through the power His Love. If you want to truly keep and obey the commands of Jesus, you first must follow and pursue relationship with Him before anything else. As you begin to be filled with his presence you will see his commandments are not burdensome, and not hard to follow. Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory. No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God. We have everything we need to be obedient to God and his word in Christ's love. In his love he has provided the grace and mercy we need for spiritual growth. In his love he has the provided the faith and hope we need for righteous obedience. 1 John 5:20
