Oh To Wise Meditations
In keeping with your magnificent, unfailing love, please pardon the sins of your people. LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger. For the LORD holds a cup in his hand that is full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours out the wine in judgment, and all the wicked must drink it, draining it to the dregs. How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity comes upon them? That God distributes pains in his anger? Are they driven before the wind like straw? Are they carried away by the storm like chaff? Not at all! It is said, 'God stores up the punishment of the wicked for their children.' Let him repay the wicked, so that they themselves will experience it! Let their own eyes see their destruction; let them drink the cup of the wrath of the Almighty. God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. This will happen on the day when the Lord returns to be praised and honored by all who have faith in him and belong to him. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
