Proverbs of a 39 yr old man
The Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ. Everyone in the world has a strong desire to sin and and this desire controls people. Yes, sin is like a prison. People cannot be free from their sin even if they try very hard. But Jesus Christ can free people from their sins. When people realize this, they trust Jesus. Then they will receive the good things that God has promised. People could not trust Jesus until he came to this world. Before that time, people had to obey the Jewish law. The law showed people how much they sinned. The law was like a judge. It showed people that they were guilty. But the law was also like a prison guard. The law could not free people. People could never escape from their sin. God showed people how to trust him when he sent Jesus into the world. This does not mean God’s laws are opposite to his promises. The laws would be opposite if they could give us spiritual life. In fact, God would have accepted us because we obeyed his laws. The law did have a purpose. God gave his laws because people sin. And those laws show people what sin really is. Oh but promises of God that come through the gift of the Gospel is true freedom worth living for and pursing.
