Proverbs of a 40 yr old man
The art of correction. While it is hard to receive correction it is also hard to give correction. Many times we provoke people by being mean spirited and hurtful just to prove that your right. Correction should be more than that. Think about this verse in James 5:19-20 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins. Amen. How important is correction not only in receiving it but giving it. You can truly save a life by helping someone see the error of there ways through the power of Christ's love and wisdom. The commands of God are a lamp and its instruction a light; this corrective discipline is the way to life. The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. Amen. We do well to correct others in the love and admonition of Jesus, here are some pointers for giving correction. Keep things in context, don't go all over the place linking things together. Discipline and reprove, reward and encourage appropriately. Ask clarifying questions not belittled or making fun. Give people a chance to explain themselves and maybe rethink. Be graciously frank. Don't beat around the bush. Not to tear people down but to lift up a burden. You can trust a friend who corrects you, but kisses from an enemy are nothing but lies. Don't undermine and discourage. Make stronger and help fortify, don't bash and trample. Now lastly, to receive correction we must humble ourselves and allow others to speak into our life and work. You hurt only yourself by rejecting instruction, but it makes good sense to accept it. Correct a worthless bragger, and all you will get are insults and injuries. Any bragger you correct will only hate you. But if you correct someone who has common sense, you will be loved. If you have good sense, instruction will help you to have even better sense. And if you live right, education will help you to know even more. Amen. When we receive a correction do not deflect by saying you will do it. Actually do it. And listen for Gods direction as you receive correction. God can use even a donkey to give you wisdom and advise. Correction is such a gift that others are blessed by your humble spirit. Your correction may also be someone else’s provision. A stream of grace is opened up to others suffering under bad leadership and management. A lot of people suffer quietly in silence having no one to speak for them. Some people can receive that correction and make right there mistakes and errors.
