Changing Seasons, Changing Treatments series. This is the time of year in the Spring season where we must deal with new growth of weeds. I want to talk about Dandelion's today, and as the LORD leads go over some different weeds that may spring up not just in our lawns but in hearts and lives. Seasons of life change for us, and we must in Christ daily be seeking his wisdom for our lives here on Earth. The enemy of our souls wants to sift us like wheat; how much more does he want weeds growing in the garden of our hearts. So, Dandelions. You can easily recognize them by the bright yellow flowers that transform into puffballs full of seeds. You may notice broad, heavily scalloped leaves growing close to the ground, but in a lawn the leaves may be entangled with the turfgrass and be difficult to spot. You’ll see dandelions in lawns or planting beds, and they can grow in the sun or shade. Dandelions also take root in gaps between pavers or cracks in sidewalks and driveways. It's the same way in our hearts we allow all kind of dandelion thoughts to take root in our minds. If you think about it, they are like the sin that looks beautiful as a flower on the outside. But it's passion and desire passes away over time. God does not allow the wicked the satisfaction of sin. The righteous eat to their hearts’ content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry. Amen. It is better to root out the lusts of the heart before it births full grown destruction in you. Jesus is heard many times in Scripture of dealing with sin in our hearts. Even though it feels good for a season to desire sin in our hearts, it will lead us to spiritual death in our lives. Sinful desire that is not dealt with will wither us away like the Dandelion. We must root out these wicked desires in us, these dandelion desires. Digging up dandelions by the root is often the most effective way of ridding your lawn of these weeds. Remove as much of the root as possible to reduce the chance of regrowth. Dig dandelions up as soon as you see them and before the seed heads develop. If the plant already has a seed head, work carefully to avoid distributing the seeds. I hope you see the analogy here, let's cut off sinful desire in our thoughts and not let it take root into habitual behavior. Dandelions are famous for the puff balls it creates. People make wishes and blow their dreams away. The seed in the puff ball disappears into nothing and reproduces a vicious cycle that brings no satisfaction, just enslavement to sin. Let's stop the sin of bitterness, lust, greed, and jealousy. They profit us nothing but trouble and headache. As the famous song would say, I can't get no satisfaction! Why? Because God will not let his eternal Peace come from sin, his eternal Love come from sin, his eternal Joy come from sin. He will not bless sin; you will be like a dandelion in the wind blown away by trial and tribulation. Whether in the sun or shade, this unsatisfying weed will grow in the soil of our hearts and profit nothing on the inside. You may look great on the outside for many years, but it's false beauty will dissolve into nothing good for your inner man. The wicked are like the chaff that the wind of strife blows away. But the righteous are like green pastures that the LORD Jesus lies down in and rests His Love on them. Picture a weedless heart pasture where Christ can plant His Word and fulfill the promises He has made to you.
