Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing. They hardly get started, barely taking root, when he blows on them and they wither. The wind carries them off like chaff. Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth. Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale. But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Trust in your wealth, and you will be a failure, but God's people will prosper like healthy plants. The righteous will flourish like palm trees; they will grow like the cedars of Lebanon.
