Oh To Be Wise Meditations
You shall not commit adultery. If a man commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death. Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. It is a terrible sin for a man to divorce his wife and marry another woman. It is also a terrible sin for a man to marry a divorced woman. But if you go to bed with another man's wife, you will destroy yourself by your own stupidity. Don't be immoral in matters of sex. That is a sin against your own body in a way no other sin is. If someone obeys all of God's laws except one, that person is guilty of breaking all of them. Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Some of you say, "We can do anything we want to." But I tell you not everything is good for us. So I refuse to let anything have power over me. I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won't lose out after telling the good news to others. But I tell you if you look at another woman and want her, you are already unfaithful in your thoughts. Committing adultery with her already in your heart. Do not lust in your heart for her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” For the same God who said, “You must not commit adultery,” also said, “You must not murder.” So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law. Speak and act like people who will be judged by the law that sets us free. Do this, because on the day of judgment there will be no pity for those who have not had pity on others. But even in judgment, God is merciful!
