Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Embrace the fear of the LORD. It will keep you from folly and protect you from sin and death. No fear exists where his love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear, because fear involves punishment. The person who lives in fear doesn't have perfect love. A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows we have not really learned to love. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us. God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. Sin and death makes us fearful of the coming judgment. Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again. Faith should trump fear. Embrace fear and grow from your mistakes and your past. God is Father and he will not abuse us like many earthly fathers have maybe unknowingly. But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. No longer do we have a guardian as litem. We are true sons and daughters through the blood of Christ. And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.
