Oh To Be Wise Meditations
The Everything Bagel. Everything bagel spice is a mixture of common ingredients you probably have in your pantry right now. It includes poppy seeds, toasted sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion, and salt. What's implied in the name is that everything is in it. Has a unique flavor that I actually like on my bagels but not sure on everything else. Some people might not be able to enjoy it because of allergies or the taste is not to there liking. I think this is a great description of the wisdom of the world. This wisdom is not a wisdom that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. A person who isn't spiritual doesn't accept the teachings of God's Spirit. He thinks they're nonsense. He can't understand them because a person must be spiritual to evaluate them. We need the salt of God's word alone but the world likes to add there own everything seasoning to it. Giving us wicked desires that we cannot handle, perverting the Living Word of God. In the Lord's name, then, I warn you: do not continue to live like the heathen, whose thoughts are worthless things. They can't understand because they are in the dark. They are excluded from the life that God approves of because of their ignorance and stubbornness. Since they no longer have any sense of shame, they have become promiscuous. They practice every kind of sexual perversion with a constant desire for more. Yes, having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Pure salt is what has been given to us so that shame can do its proper work. Producing repentance and keeping us from a promiscuous spirit. Surely you have listened to him and have been taught by him, since truth is in Jesus. You were told that your foolish desires will destroy you and that you must give up your old way of life with all its bad habits. Let the Spirit change your way of thinking and make you into a new person. You were created to be like God, and so you must please him and be truly holy. The everything bagel of desires is not going to work in our lives and though it taste good to our flesh. It moves us away from the pure salt of the Living Word. Keep it pure Gospel in your life and heart. Let the saltiness of the Spirit permeate our every desire so that the world can taste and see the LORD is God in our lives. Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? The everything seasoning of the world lacks the true Salt we need, its mixed in there with the wisdom of the world. Meditate this, everyone will be salted with fire. Yes, everyone will be purified by fire as a sacrifice is purified by salt. You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
