Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Fear can get you lost in a dark and weary place. My friends dog ran away from the house when it heard a loud thunder. Fear caused him to not think and succumb to the spirit of fear. My dog Reuben does the same thing when it thunders, he runs under the bed or under furniture and takes awhile to come to his senses to look for me. Fear can corner us away from people that love us and want to help us. Especially fear of judgment can keep us from the mercy and grace found in Christ. I think about Adam and Eve running from God's presence because of the shame and fear of their sins. Their eyes were opened and they did what they thought was best. I use the example of dogs earlier because their hearts are in the right place, but their emotions can take them away from the love of their master. I want my dog to be comforted by my presence even though there is thunder and lightning outside. They pant and pant hoping the sound of thunder to pass, and don't we worry and stress for trial and tribulation to pass. Fear has taken hold of us, and we forget to look for God and his spirit of power and love. He wants to hold and guide us through trial and temptation, but fear of the unknown keeps our tails between our legs. Jesus never wavered and feared, He stayed close to the Father and made sure to leave us an example. The spirit of fear is a spirit we must overcome. Jesus has overcome so we can overcome. Only reverential fear and awe of God can keep us close to him when troubles come. May we stop running and hiding and living and abiding. He will cover our nakedness and provide the sacrifice needed. You only need to stay close and have faith in the Love of our Great Savior. I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn't like the peace this world can give. So don't be worried or afraid.
