Oh To Be Wise Meditations

What is the culture I am living in? What way of life am I following and is my life the better for it? We all have particular behaviors, beliefs, and values that affect our daily lives. Some things we were born into and other things we picked up along the way. For example, when I was younger I used to listen to a lot of different kinds of music. With each genre I would try to fit into the culture around it, and over time I wasn't sure who I was anymore. Music has a funny way of controlling the way you dress, think, and feel. There are so many other ways that we cultivate a culture around us. But who are we truly and what brings us most peace. I now find it refreshing that I do not have to be apart of a certain culture to be accepted. Part of being a Christian that I like is the humility and high calling Jesus has called us to. His life that He lived for us gave us an example, a culture to follow. Though we will never be perfect like Him, there is blessing in living in the way the truth and the life. So many times and in so many ways we have cultivated wickedness and harvested a thriving crop of sins. Eating the fruit of lies that the worldly culture provides leaving us so empty and hungry of soul. Those who eat the fruit of a godless lifestyle will be stuffed with their own schemes. For the waywardness of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. But whoever listens to Jesus will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil. Lord, the culture I am living in is it pleasing to you? Help me to follow the steps you have prepared for me to walk in. I must follow your footsteps.
