Oh To Be Wise Meditations

I was pressure washing sidewalk today by the street and I noticed a foul smell. It was very strong and I could barely keep on working. Its was roadkill that was rotting in the open road. Every time a car came by and ran over it, the smell would intensify all the more. This roadkill was beginning to decompose and bugs were flying around it. The first thought that popped in my head was that this was unclean. I definitely did not want to come near it or touch it. Probably with a stick should move it out of the way, would be more sanitary. I thought about the verse Leviticus 5:2, Suppose you unknowingly touch something that is ceremonially unclean, such as the carcass of an unclean animal. When you realize what you have done, you must admit your defilement and your guilt. This is true whether it is a wild animal, a domestic animal, or an animal that scurries along the ground. Not only was touching an unclean animal not safe but it was unfit for worship bearing guilt. This is because God is holy and no unclean thing is worthy in His Presence. For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you. The wisdom of God in the ancient days for sanitary and cleanliness of a people was amazing. Israel was set apart for a reason, being a light to a dark world at the time. But what stands out the most to me is Israel's uncleanness to worship God. Our righteousness is filthy rags, and best efforts are rotten roadkill. Praise be to God, that Jesus came to make the unclean clean. Like spiritual lepers we stood at a distance from the Holiness of God. But Jesus, who is holy, stepped into our unclean world as a human and began to bring the holiness of God to humanity. When I smell that fresh rotten roadkill, it reminds me of sin and death and how Jesus overcame it. The Lord Jesus bore our filth and shame so that we could share in his holiness. Our wore down bodies are actually temples for the Presence of God to dwell in. The Holy Spirit is removing the smell of rot in our lives and replacing it with the sweet aroma of Christ. What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.” “Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. And: “I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
