Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? Peter is explaining to his fellow Jewish people that God in Christ has given everyone the gift of the Gospel. Why should we burden ourselves still with the things Jesus died to set us free! Peter also says, God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. On this Independence Day let us thank God for the freedom we have to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth in this country. So many people around the world do not have the freedoms we have, yet we still have people in this country that live like slaves. Instead of coming out of poverty and becoming a good member of society. Many people would rather live from the system and just live a selfish life. You were meant for so much more than to live from a system that reaps poverty of the soul. Instead of asking what can I do for my country, it’s always what can my country do for me? Independence day should remind us of the freedom we have and how we should not take it for granted. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Stand firm this Independence Day. Let it remind us of the freedom Jesus died to give us. It is this freedom that has shaped our nation for so many years. And may it continue for every American generation to come. So that our hearts will never become slaves to sin again and you have to try to legislate morality. You should want to good and hate evil. That is true freedom for everyone. Let this freedom ring today in our hearts! Let fireworks light the sky with praises to Jesus! One nation under God. Amen.
