Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Jesus is LORD of the Sabbath. Since He made all things, He made the Sabbath. By Him it was set apart as a memorial of the work of creation. It points to Him as both the Creator and the One who sanctifies you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. God established the Sabbath to be an everlasting memorial of His work of creation. He instituted the seventh day in Eden. In Ezekiel 20:12 The LORD says I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them. So then the Sabbath is a sign of Christ’s power to make us holy. And it is given to all whom Christ makes holy. His power that created all things is the power that re-creates the soul in His own likeness. And as a sign of His sanctifying power, the Sabbath is given to all who through Christ become a part of Israel salvation and blessings. On this Memorial Day let us remember not only the lives lost and the blood split for our great nation. But let it remind us also of the blood she for us on the Cross of Calvary. His life lost for for us so that we might live again. When Jesus said, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Jesus was attesting to the fact that, just as the Sabbath day was originally instituted to give man rest from his labors, so did He come to provide us rest from laboring to achieve our own salvation by our works. Because of His sacrifice on the cross, we can now forever cease laboring to attain God’s favor and rest in His mercy and grace. The weekly Sabbath still remains as a reminder that Jesus is making all things new day by day in his time. Worship Him who is the LORD of the Sabbath and find your true rest for your soul in Him today.
