Oh To Be Wise Meditations
There is a puppy in my work office that we are enjoying. He sniffs around all the time, very curious and hungry. His focus is belly rubs and food, even crumbs off the table will do as well. As the pup gets older he never loses that passion to hunger and thirst. I love the sound of a dog panting and waiting in joy for the masters food daily. I am grossed out by dog food. But my dogs are so happy for food in a bowl that is on the floor. Now I think I understand better David when he said starting in Psalm 42:1," As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and
my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. Amen. LORD my soul pants and hungers after you the Living God! I love the days of first love where I ate from very hand daily and your word sustained me! But as the life and cares of this world closed in on me, I stopped hungering after you and hungered after the things of this world that never satisfy and leave me empty. Oh Jesus restore to those who have lost the taste of your hand the joy of your salvation. Like a young pup, a young deer, and even an older dog that still hungers and pants. LORD, daily give me a hunger and thirst for your righteousness and not of mine own. I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments.
