Proverbs of a 38 yr old man
There is only one God. Many things in heaven and on earth are called gods and lords, but none of them really are gods or lords. We have only one God, and he is the Father. He created everything, and we live for him. Jesus Christ is our only Lord. Everything was made by him, and by him life was given to us. Not everyone knows these things. In fact, many people have grown up with the belief that idols have life in them. We all know that an idol is not really a god and that there is only one God. There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually ignorantly worship many gods and many lords. And while having this knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church and not endless arguing. Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes. They will know we are Christians by our love. Let Holy Spirit do the convicting as you share the truth of Gods word in love. Meaning be careful with people who have a weak conscience. Foolish and ignorant controversies that breed infighting doesn't bring us any closer to God. We are no worse off if we don't demand works, and we are no better off if we demand faith. Its takes both to grow in the knowledge of God and not one or the other. So don't cause problems for someone with a weak conscience, just because you feel you have the right to do certain things. You know the way of faith, and so it doesn't bother you to see someone trying to be "religious" and honor God. But suppose a person with a weak conscience sees you and decides to do something against their conscience. Then what you know has destroyed someone Christ died for. Yes, so because of your superior knowledge, a weak believer for whom Christ died will be destroyed. When you sin by hurting a follower with a weak conscience, you sin against Christ. So if I hurt one of the Lord's followers by what I do, I will never do that as long as I live. We who are strong ought to bear with the shortcomings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Think about this as you reflect: “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is edifying.
