Proverbs of a 41 yr. old man
When our Father in Heaven comes to discipline us we run to the world to get coddled in sin saying everything is going to be ok. Instead of receiving grace in our time of need we go to the world and receive approval for our sins. Adam and Eve after they sinned and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they hid themselves from God. They covered themselves with leaves: Then the eyes of the two of them were opened [that is, their awareness increased], and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. Gen 3:7. Amen. We need the discipline of God because we cover ourselves with guilt and shame, like sown leaves together is our righteousness. But God called and Adam came as he was to receive the discipline of God. He was asked who told you you were naked? And Adam blamed the woman before admitting he ate the fruit. And Eve blamed the Serpent being deceived by him. After the discipline of God He covered them with animal skins, a covering provided by God himself. Though the curse of sin came upon man and woman and serpent. Grace was provided by God through the prophecy of the destruction to the Serpent: And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” Amen. We need the discipline of God desperately. Even though it hurts and is harsh, it doesn't compare to the destruction of the wicked, the rebellious, and the devil and his demons. Like Job, though he slay me yet I will trust him. I want to close with David a man after God's own heart. He had a heart for God and shunned the world's comforting wine of hypocrisy and pride. He was so open and honest before the LORD. Hear his heart in this story in the Bible:
2 Sam 24
10But after he had taken the census, David’s conscience began to bother him. And he said to the LORD, “I have sinned greatly by taking this census. Please forgive my guilt, LORD, for doing this foolish thing.”
11The next morning the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, who was David’s seer. This was the message: 12“Go and say to David, ‘This is what the LORD says: I will give you three choices. Choose one of these punishments, and I will inflict it on you.’”
13So Gad came to David and asked him, “Will you choose threed years of famine throughout your land, three months of fleeing from your enemies, or three days of severe plague throughout your land? Think this over and decide what answer I should give the LORD who sent me.”
14“I’m in a desperate situation!” David replied to Gad. “But let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is great. Do not let me fall into human hands.” Amen.
LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
