Took me out of the pit. The LORD is willing that no one should perish but everyone come to repentance. All humanity has fallen into the pit of sin and death having no one to take them out of it. What man could not do for themselves God did in sending His own Son in the likeness of man. God is Spirit, so a body was prepared for him so He could reach down to the uttermost of humanity stuck in the pit of sin and death. God could have created a fully grown adult body for Jesus as He did for Adam and rushed Him to the cross, but He didn’t. Instead, Jesus left heaven, entered time and experienced for Himself ordinary human life from birth to adulthood to death. Learning and suffering and death are part of the life experience for all people, and God ensured that His own Son would be no exception. As God, Jesus did not need to learn anything, especially obedience; yet, at His incarnation, Jesus limited Himself to the human experience. He chose the weak position of having to learn and grow. Amen. Let's read Isaiah 53 and I will close out with a final thought.
What God's Servant Did for Us (CEV)
1 Has anyone believed us or seen the mighty power
of the Lord in action? 2Like a young plant or a root
that sprouts in dry ground, the servant grew up
obeying the Lord. He wasn't some handsome king.
Nothing about the way he looked made him attractive to us. 3He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!” 4He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God. 5 He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well. 6 All of us were like sheep that had wandered off. We had each gone our own way, but the Lord gave him the punishment we deserved. 7 He was painfully abused, but he did not complain. He was silent like a lamb being led to the butcher, as quiet as a sheep
having its wool cut off. 8He was condemned to death
without a fair trial. Who could have imagined what would happen to him? His life was taken away
because of the sinful things my people had done. 9 He wasn't dishonest or violent, but he was buried in a tomb among cruel, rich people. 10The Lord decided his servant would suffer as a sacrifice to take away the sin and guilt of others. Now the servant will live to see his own descendants. He did everything the Lord had planned..11By suffering, the servant will learn the true meaning of obeying the Lord. Although he is innocent, he will take the punishment for the sins of others, so that many of them will no longer be guilty. 12 The Lord will reward him with honor and power for sacrificing his life. Others thought he was a sinner,
but he suffered for our sins and asked God to forgive us. Amen.
Jesus came, He lived and died in the pit of sin and death. He was on a mission to save the souls of man. The disciples asked on many occasions where are you going and why do you have to leave? Then He went to heaven and left humanity behind. It's like meeting humanity in the pit and instead of pulling them out He meets the same fate as the rest of them stuck in the pit of sin and death. We are people of flesh and blood. This is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power over death. But he also died to rescue all of us who live each day in fear of dying. Jesus clearly did not come to help angels, but he did come to help Abraham's descendants. He had to be one of us, so he could serve God as our merciful and faithful high priest and sacrifice himself for the forgiveness of our sins. And now that Jesus has suffered and was tempted, he can help anyone else who is tempted. Amen. After He died the death that all humans will experience, He was risen back to life! He was risen so that we would rise again too. Jesus said to his disciples, I must leave and cannot stay. Because the Comforter will not come. So He left the pit of this world leaving humanity behind but with better promises and covenant with God. Crushing the princes and powers of the air in the pit of this world. Now humanity is still stuck in the pit of sin and death but can experience the Spirit and Life of Heaven that is outside of the pit of this world. All humanity knows is death and sorrow. But through the rope and life line of the Spirit of Christ we are able to climb out of the sins that so easily entangle us and keep us down. Day by day the deposit of Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Christ in us, is strengthening us to overcome this life in the pit of sin and death. Able to follow Jesus out of pit and overcome this world like He did. He made the only one way out through Him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. This way out of the pit of sin and death is the path of the Cross He laid out for all humanity. We follow him out of this pit through the living sacrifice of our lives though succumbing to sin and death in the natural. But then our renewed spirits in Christ receive a body like His to finally climb out of this pit of darkness and enter into the Marvelous Light of Heaven. This simply was a plan of rescue and salvation. To say God does not care for those stuck in the pit of this world. Simply don't see or have never understood John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son. That whosoever believeth in Him will not die but have eternal life. Amen. This plan is complex, His ways are not our ways, but God did come and He does care about His broken creation. He lived it and He died for it. A plan prepared before the foundations of the world. The failsafe was if anything went haywire, Jesus the Word of God would become flesh. In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. This light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. Jesus! I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave,a you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night. But even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You are the Light the Heaven shining the way out of the dark pit of sin and death.
