Oh To Be Wise Meditations
We want to make law out of everything. Even if it kills us with guilt and shame, we want perfection for us but not for others. It is a sign of spiritual immaturity when we nitpick each other to death. Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Gods holy law is so holy and set apart that only Christ could fulfill its purpose. God knew that his holy law would produce sin in our hearts. That we would destroy each other in trying to keep it. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. God is wanting us to care more about the important matters of the law like justice, mercy and faithfulness. Listen to Jesus talking to the Pharisees: You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either. Let's lift Gods moral law and honor it in our hearts today. Only Jesus can keep us blameless and holy till He comes again. By his power we can live in obedience to the law of God and live in the blessings Jesus provides. Oh LORD, thank you for the grace you poured out on the Cross so I can be free from sin. Help me to more meticulous with the matters of our hearts than to curse myself with my guilt and shame. I want to live under grace and uphold the moral law of God in my heart.
