Proverbs of a 37 yr old man
Spirit and body of a car. The spirit of the car is you sitting in the car driving. But the flesh of a car is the body. When the body hurts or is damaged it sends signals and alarms to the front dash. It's up to the spirit of the car, which is you driving to make decisions about the body. Same with the body of a car, it could be running just fine but could crash if the spirit of the car is distracted or hurting. I use this illustration to show how complex the spirit and body of a person is. Our body gives us a signal through pain and in turn affects the spirit. The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit? So interwind is the body and spirit that only death can separate. So make a choice to refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy, for youth and vigor are vanity. Because we have such great and precious promises in Christ, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the cross so that he could be the vehicle for our salvation. Through His Spirit living in us we can truly choose to die to sin and live for righteousness even in such earthen vessels. By his wounds showing on the dashboard you have been healed. Give thanks that Jesus has given his body for our broken down lives. He says, "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Do this in remembrance of me. Let Jesus do his perfect work in your spirit and body. He is the Great Mechanic.
