Proverbs of a 38 yr old man
Forgiveness always comes with a cost. You have to be willing to take a loss many times and at your expense. And I'm not just talking about money, their is a cost of other things like time and sacrifice. But forgiveness is easier to practice if we emulate God and his heart for us. God paid the price for us. He did not pay the price in money but paid it when He sent Jesus to die for us. So when we forgive other people we should accept the cost to us. God loves us. By his grace he has forgiven us. And because of this we should forgive other people. Jesus takes forgiveness seriously. We are to forgive those who repent not just once or twice, but over and over again. He isn't asking us to ignore it when a brother or sister sins against us, but to talk with them about it and to love them enough to call them to repentance. The freedom to truly love and forgive another comes from the freedom of having been truly loved and forgiven. Don’t eat with people who are stingy; don’t desire their delicacies. They are always thinking about how much it costs. “Eat and drink,” they say, but they don’t mean it. Each bite will come back up, and all your kind words will be wasted. The LORD offers forgiveness that we might learn to fear him, and with reverence serve Him.
